British Science Festival

Sponsor of the British Science Festival, Guildford 2009

Modern Water plc, an advanced water technologies company based in Guildford, linked up with the British Science Association in 2009 as a sponsor of the British Science Festival, hosted by the University of Surrey.

As one of the Festival sponsors, Modern Water exhibited as part of the ‘Science about Town’ event in Trinity Centre on the High Street in Guildford. Visitors to the Modern Water stand saw first hand how the company’s water toxicity monitoring technology works, and there were fun and educational experiments for children and adults alike.

Through its sponsorship of the event, Modern Water was particularly keen to spark enthusiasm and excitement in young people to consider science or engineering as a career. Modern Water has been based in Guildford since the company was founded and its ground-breaking desalination technology was developed by academics at the University of Surrey.

Alice More O’Ferrall, Marketing Manager, commented, "As a company, we employ cutting edge techniques from science and engineering, and so the British Science Festival is an important event in the calendar. To have the event hosted on our doorstep represents a fantastic opportunity for Modern Water to engage with our community. Using technology developed at the University of Surrey, Modern Water is a real Guildford success story, and we’re delighted to be able to showcase our business locally."

The British Science Festival was hosted by the University of Surrey in Guildford from 5th – 10th September 2009.
