Gibraltar

The world’s first desalination plant using Modern Water’s patented manipulated osmosis process was unveiled in Gibraltar in September 2008.

The Gibraltar plant was established as a proving plant to demonstrate the benefits of the Group’s MO technology for desalination.  Since producing first water in 2009, the plant has been pivotal in the development of the technology in a working environment, and the plant has been supplying water into Gibraltar’s local distribution system ever since.  Client and third party verification of the savings achieved using the MO technology provided a spring-board for the commercial plant in Oman.  The Group has operating staff based in Gibraltar working on the proving plant, and research and development of the technology is ongoing.
